A Chesterfield based rugby club is reaping the benefits of a local business partnership reinforcing the important link between business and sport in a community.
The Chesterfield Panthers Rugby Union Football Club, which has in recent years enjoyed sponsorship from NIBE Energy Systems UK who are also based in the town, celebrates its Centenary this year and is a community amateur sports club that offers rugby training and matches to juniors and adults.
Graham Bell, Honorary President Chesterfield Panthers Rugby Union Football Club, commented; “Thanks to the sponsorship and support of NIBE Energy Systems we are able to provide a quality facility for sport and recreation and help our members enjoy their preferred support which transcends into a wider vision of wellbeing and fitness for people within the town. The core values of team work, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship are rugby values that translate easily into valued ethics of a workforce and we are delighted to have the support of a well-known Chesterfield business with a global presence.”
The club was formed in 1919 and moved to its current home at Dunston Road to enable the club to deliver its vision of creating a quality facility that could be maintained and delivered at an affordable level for all to enjoy. Thanks to the support of NIBE the execution of such a vision is ever more possible.
“It is a pleasure to support a club that is doing so much good for the local community, giving children and adults a chance to participate in a game they enjoy and help in keeping Chesterfield fit and well,” said Phil Hurley, Managing director NIBE Energy Systems. “It is great to see the senior teams revert to the original red and white hoop shirts that display the clubs centenary badge and our logo to their chests – a proud moment for us all.”
In celebration of its 100 year anniversary the club has a number of events organised including; a Centenary Dinner Dance on 6th July, RUGFEST on Friday 12th and 13th July and a classic car show at Dunston Road on 3rd August. From October 2019 to January 2020 Chesterfield Museum will host an exhibition entitled ‘SCRUM – 100 years of Chesterfield Rugby Club.
