Ground Source Heat Pump Case Study
Halifax, West Yorkshire

Halifax, West Yorkshire

James set out with a vision – he wanted to create a highly efficient home for his family in a green belt location and was determined to work with the designers and construction company to ensure the property was uniquely designed to meet his vision for a low environmental impact, highly sustainable home. The result was a detached home in the rural area of Bradshaw, Halifax with elegant and modern features. The property was designed with as much renewable energy as possible, carefully designed to capture natural light whilst keeping in mind the needs of James’ growing family and the need for cost-effectiveness, practicality and comfort.

James and Justine Ginley have kitted out their property with underfloor heating, triple glazing and oversized wall, floor and roof insulation to ensure that the home is thermally efficient and heat demand minimised. This left just the heating system to consider to match the property’s low carbon credentials.

The Solution

James took the opportunity while he was landscaping his garden to lay the pipework for a Ground Source Heat Pump. He opted for a NIBE S1155 GSHP, paired with two solar thermal panels and a waste water recovery system.

The S1155 installation was up to the job of meeting the heating and hot water demand for the 5-bedroom property. The S1155 comes with integrated Wi-Fi and smart controls, enabling the family to control the property’s temperature levels via the NIBE myUplink mobile app across the home, whilst giving them full access to insight on heat generation and performance data. Featuring an elegant design, the GSHP blended right in to the sleek, modern look of the Ginley’s new home.

James took advantage of the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), now replaced by the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), both of which promote the use of renewable heat through grants provided to those making the move to heat pumps.

Sustainability was kept in mind at all stages of the property’s design and build process, and James worked with Brian Slattery Plumbers, designers and DLE Construction Limited throughout the project to ensure his vision was implemented to maximum effectiveness. All excavation waste was retained on site to reuse for landscaping, whilst all construction waste was separated out and recycled in local facilities.

Testimonial

With the world making a conscious effort to live cleaner lives, I thought I would contribute to the global effort to address climate change by living a more sustainable life. My NIBE Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) has been providing me and my family with hot water and heating during the winter months and has a user-friendly interface for easy temperature adjustment.
