Scandia-Hus timber-frame home chooses NIBE

Background to the project

A stylish and innovative home in the heart of Kent is benefiting from the added attraction of an Air Source Heat Pump making it a home truly fit for 21st century living. Baytree Bungalow, a Scandia-Hus two bedroom detached home with vaulted ceiling to the open plan living area, is the project of Dan Edwards , owner of his own gardening business, and his wife Kelly, who decide to fulfill their dream by constructing one of these amazing homes as a business venture.

They chose this innovative way of building due to Dan’s Swedish heritage and their desire to create a sustainable home. Constructed from Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPS) these timber framed homes offer unrivalled levels of insultation, far exceeding the specification currently demanded by UK Building Regulations. This desire to ensure the home was as sustainable as possible then led them onto the sourcing of a renewable heat and hot water solution and a NIBE F2040 6kW Air Source Heat Pump was deemed as the perfect solution by Dan’s chosen installers, Energy My Way.

The solution to the project

"Baytree Bungalow is a great representation of cutting edge building techniques and heating systems to create a home that is stunningly energy efficient and a blue-print for the future of homes in the UK" said Jamie Thompson Director Energy My Way.

“The smaller 6kW Air Source Heat Pump from NIBE is a great addition to the range and is ideally suited to smaller properties ensuring the accessibility of renewable solutions is becoming more wide spread for UK homeowners. The vision of Scandinavian countries to drive sustainability is showcased perfectly on this UK project, with both a Swedish home construction and a Swedish heating solution.”

Gavin Pearson Project Manager Scandia-Hus UK added; “This was a great project to work on; a smaller home than our typical property portfolio but hugely successful. It was a pleasure to support Dan and Kelly with their vision and it took just one week to erect and four months to complete in full."

“We are very happy to recommend NIBE having worked with their products for many years and know that they deliver reliability and excellent performance levels. Our homes are perfect for self-builders and small developers who wish to capitalise on the benefits of sustainable living and energy efficient homes and the relatively short construction times we offer in comparison to traditional construction methods. Awareness is definitely growing and it is projects like Dan and Kelly’s that will continue to educate the wider public as to the benefits our homes and renewable energy systems can bring to the UK housing market.”

Testimonial

Dan Edwards developer commented; “It is so great to see our plans completed and we are proud to have created such a wonderful home that delivers fantastic energy efficiencies and definitely ticks the sustainability boxes; all demands that the modern homeowner is now placing high on their agenda.

“Choosing an Air Source Heat Pump was a simple solution for us – it was ideally suited to the compact nature of the property and it has definitely future proofed the home for the lucky buyers. Installation was efficient and the knowledge of the team at Energy My Way ensured we were fully aware of why this particular pump had been specified, its capabilities and what to expect from the installation process.

“Coupled with the efficiencies of the Scandia-Hus too, we know that whoever becomes the custodian of the home will enjoy contributing to the sustainability of the UK and also the benefits of owning such a forward-thinking home with plentiful heating and hot water.

“It is now our intention to begin another Scandia-Hus and NIBE development and look forward to working with Jamie and Energy My Way in the future.”
