Any NIBE heat pump can be combined with a ventilation system to provide you with heating, hot water and ventilation in the same system. Ventilation is a simple concept - used, stale air is extracted from inside the property and is replaced by fresh air from outside. Ventilation comes in two forms:
Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) - a ventilation system that extracts stale air from within a home, recovers the heat from the stale air, and transfers the withdrawn heat to the incoming air. This creates an effect of fresh air without losing warmth.
Mechanical Extract Ventilation (MEV) - a ventilation system that extracts stale air from within a home. Fresh air enters the property passively through vents in the walls and does not heat the incoming air up.
NIBE Ventilation accessories form the ERS (Energy Recovery System) product line. ERS accessories use mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, resulting in an all-in-one heating, hot water, and ventilation system. ERS accessories can be paired with any NIBE air source or ground source heat pump.
Our exhaust air range has mechanical extract ventilation integral to the heat pump itself, so no additional accessories are required.
| Product Type | Accessories Required | Ventilation Type |
|---|---|---|
| Air Source | NIBE ERS Accessory | Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery |
| Ground Source | NIBE ERS Accessory | Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery |
| Exhaust Air | None - built into the heat pump | Mechanical extract ventilation |
Benefit from automatic fan speed adjustment based on CO2 and humidity levels in your home. Demand Control Ventilation is a feature of the S-Series controller.
Ventilation systems paired with an air source heat pump will require the necessary ducting throughout the house to move the air around. A small wall-mounted ERS unit is also required, which is operated by the same control system as the heat pump - the S-Series controller.

Ventilation systems paired with a ground source heat pump will also require the necessary ducting throughout the house to move the air around. The setup is the same as an air source heat pump: a small wall-mounted ERS unit is required, which is operated by the same control system as the heat pump - the S-Series controller.

Ventilation systems paired with an exhaust air heat pump do not require an additional accessory as the ventilation accessory is built into the heat pump, but still require the necessary ducting throughout the house to move the air around. Both the heat pump and the ventilation unit are controlled by the S-Series controller.

In the UK, the average person spends 92% of their time indoors. This is why indoor air quality matters and should be an important consideration for any homeowner.
Household air pollution like particulate matter and allergens can worsen symptoms of asthma and other respiratory conditions. A ventilation system in combination with a heat pump can help to solve this.
