NIBE SMO 20

The NIBE SMO 20 controller is engineered as a robust, installer friendly central hub for managing NIBE air source heat pump systems. Its compact, wall-mounted profile ensures easy placement in utility rooms, plant cupboards and retrofit spaces where depth and clearance are limited. Accessing the internals is straightforward: the front cover lifts off with two screws, and the removable display module provides clear access to the baseboard and all terminal blocks. This helps installers complete electrical work, commissioning and servicing without unnecessary dismantling or downtime.

All wiring and sensor connections are arranged into clearly labelled terminals, reducing installation time and ensuring long-term serviceability. Dedicated cable grommets separate high voltage and low voltage routing, supporting compliance with UK wiring standards and minimising interference. The inclusion of an onboard miniature circuit breaker protects internal electronics, while the ON/Standby/Emergency Mode hardware switch gives installers physical control during commissioning or when isolating the heat pump. Supplied accessories, including pipe sensors, outdoor sensor, conductive paste, aluminium tape and insulation, ensure consistently neat, reliable sensor installation.

The front mounted display and tactile interface make day to day adjustments intuitive, but they also serve an important diagnostic purpose. A clear status lamp indicates operational state, while the hidden USB port allows quick firmware updates without opening the chassis. Combined with optional expansion boards, relay outputs and configurable AUX inputs, the SMO 20 provides installers with a flexible, hardware ready platform that integrates cleanly into a wide range of UK heating system designs, from simple single zone retrofits to more complex installations requiring pumps, valves or buffer integration.
