Why the time for heat pumps is now

The race to net zero is already underway
Across the UK, businesses, households and communities are making changes to cut carbon emissions. But when it comes to heating our homes, progress is often seen as something for the future. Household air pollution was responsible for an estimated 3.2 million deaths per year in 2020, as pollutants like particulate matter and allergens can worsen symptoms of asthma and other respiratory conditions.
The truth is, we don’t have to wait. The technology to make homes warmer, more efficient and more sustainable is here today. And that technology is the heat pump.
According to the UK Government’s Energy Consumption in the UK report (2024), around two-thirds of the energy used in homes goes on space heating and hot water. That makes it the single biggest contributor to household energy bills and a major source of carbon emissions.
This also makes it one of the biggest opportunities for change. By replacing gas and oil boilers with renewable heat pumps, households can cut their carbon footprint and start saving energy straight away.
NIBE has been pioneering heat pump technology since the 1980s. Our systems are tried and tested in some of the world’s coldest climates and tailored for the specific needs of UK homes.
