Jermyn Cottage, an historic Almshouse built in 1601, is undergoing a complete renovation transforming it into a contemporary new home for its latest custodians. Frank Waspe and his partner have turned the single storey, one bedroom property into a two storey, three bedroom home which has been updated to make it as warm and energy efficient wherever possible giving due consideration to the historic fabric of the building and planning requirements.

With beautiful countryside views to the rear, the home has had its windows upgraded, its insulation enhanced and its oil fired central heating changed to a NIBE F2040 16kW Air Source Heat Pump combined with underfloor heating to the newly constructed first floor and radiators downstairs.

Solution

“This is a great example of how heat pumps can be compatible with the oldest of buildings and how they can work to great effect, lowering carbon emissions, making the homes more energy efficient and lowering energy costs,” said Rylan Sibley Greenfuture Energy Ltd. “The plant room was able to be located in an outbuilding that belonged to Frank and, as we worked on the project from the very beginning, we were able to offer our knowledge to ensure a superb system was specified for maximum effectiveness and efficiencies.

“As it can be remotely accessed installers such as myself can offer our customers a pro-active service, managing performance, addressing email alerts or simply monitoring the operational effectiveness of the system to ensure it meets the customer expectations.

“Such installations also benefit from UK government RHI (Renewable Heat Incentives) payments and for this particular project are estimated at £9,800 over a seven year period, offsetting the initial investment costs.
