Energy Efficiency: Households

  • Expanding the scope of VAT relief for energy saving materials. Ensuring that households installing energy saving materials such as thermal insulation or solar panels pay 0% VAT for the next five years, helping to improve energy efficiency and keep heating bills down.
  • Please note, the full list of technologies this tax relief applies to is yet to be released, and we will share this with you as soon as it is published.

Energy Efficiency: Non-Domestic

Green reliefs for Business Rates – at the Autumn Budget 2021 the Government announced the introduction of targeted business rate exemptions from 1 April 2023 until 31 March 2035 for eligible plant and machinery used in onsite renewable energy generation and storage. This is accompanied by a 100% relief for eligible low-carbon heat networks with their own rates bill to support the decarbonisation of non-domestic buildings. The Government is bringing forward the implementation of these to now take effect from April 2022. Business rates are England only and the devolved administrations will receive Barnett consequential funding in the usual way.
